Magn 7.5 earthquake strikes Mindanao, Philippines; tsunami warnings issued!!
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines, on Saturday. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 63 km (39 miles). The US tsunami warning system issued a tsunami warning after the quake . The Philippine Seismology Agency Phivolcs said that the first tsunami waves would arrive before midnight and may continue for hours. Evacuation orders were issued for some areas and southwestern Japanese coasts because of warnings of tsunami waves of a metre (3 feet) or more. The earthquake caused panic among residents and damaged over 50 houses and various other structures. 13 individuals sustained injuries in the tremor. The Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, which causes the country to have frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
